Alfa Romeo GTV6

Australian tribute to a classic car

My 1983 Alfa Romeo GTV6

These pages represent my fascination with a magnificent Italian Car, the Alfa Romeo GTV6.

I purchased my Alfa in 1995 from Autostrada on Lutwyche Road, Windsor here in Brisbane, Australia. At the time they were specialist dealers in Italian cars, motorcycles and scooters. At the time Autostrada had the Maserati franchise for Queensland but also dealt in other European exotics. Unfortunately they are long gone.

At the time of purchase the Alfa cost me AUD $16,500-00. It came with electric windows and mirror, sunroof, air conditioning, engine immobiliser and alarm system. Similarly kitted out cars when new were around AUD $30,000-00. As a comparison the Porsche 944, which was also available new at the time, was around AUD $34,000-00.

In 2014, after being laid up in the garage for almost 10 years, I sent the Alfa off to John French Motors who spent a couple of months getting it back on the road. I can highly recommend them as reliable and very reasonably priced Alfa and Subaru specialists.

Sadly, in 2016 I sold the GTV6 to a buyer in Sydney. I had neither the skill nor the money to restore it to the condition it deserved to be in. I've seen some photos of work in progress on the car and it looks like it's gone to a good home.

Non car related, but might be of interest to some, I visited London in 2018 and went to the RAF Museum during the 100th anniversary year of the RAF
